Stretch yourself Through Yoga

Yogasanas help to stretch the body. The whole body can be exercised, specially the back, thighs, hands and the chest.

Here are a few asanas, which will help improve flexibility and increase the blood circulation.

Makarasana or the Crocodile pose

This pose resembles that of a crocodile when it is asleep. For this pose, lie on your stomach. Stretch your hands and place them one on top of the other. Place your forehead on the mat. Keep both your heels together. Stretch your toes so that your soles are visible. Now breathe in and breathe out normally. Try to stretch your hands and legs so that there is a pull on your thighs. This pose can be done by anybody. You can stay in the pose for thirty seconds in the beginning. You can increase the duration as you go along.

Yastikasana or the Stick pose

This is a wonderful pose for stretching the back and the thighs. It is similar to the tree pose. Lie on your back. Straighten your legs. Stretch your hands beyond your head. Fold them like you do namaste. Breathe in. Stretch your hands and legs. You should feel the pull on your thighs and forearms. There will also be a pull on the spine. For children, this pose is recommended for increasing the height. This pose can be done from thirty seconds to one minute.

Kati Chakrasana or Waist Rotating pose

This pose is ideal for reducing the waist and strengthening the hands. It also improves concentration. To try this pose, stand straight with your feet together. Stretch your hands in front. Keeping the same distance of the hands, turn to the right. Look at the tip of your hands. The legs must not be moved. Now repeat the pose on the left. In the beginning the hands may ache, but with gradual practice one can do this with ease. This pose can be done for 30 seconds on each side.
